Hertsmere Borough Council and Arsenal launch exciting new partnership

Arsenal sporting heroes met with Hertsmere's future football stars to launch Hertsmere Borough Council's Community Sports Programme today.

The Community Sports Programme will see the council working in partnership with Arsenal Football Club to promote a range of exciting initiatives including a comprehensive curriculum and after schools programme, school holiday activities, girls' football and a range of diversionary projects.

Over 40 young people from Shenley Primary and Clore Shalom schools took part in a coaching session to help officially launch the Community Sports Programme at Arsenal Football Club's world-class football training facility on Wednesday 23 April.

Arsenal and England international Theo Walcott and Faye White, captain for both Arsenal Ladies and England Ladies presented certificates and offered encouragement to everyone who took part in the training session, which was held at the Club's state of the art Training Ground.

Helen Bottomley, the council's Community Sports Officer whose post has been funded as part of the Community Programme, said: "This is an exciting partnership between Hertsmere Borough Council and Arsenal Football Club and will benefit both children and young people from across the borough; not only by developing their football skills but also supporting educational
attainment, team work and self confidence.

"We are delighted that Arsenal have opened up their fantastic training facility to launch the programme and look forward to working with them in the future."

Theo Walcott said: "It was fantastic to be here today to see the launch of the Hertsmere Community Sports Programme. It's a pleasure to be involved, meet the children from the local community and present them with certificates. I know that Faye and I being here can give extra motivation for the youngsters involved and it's so important as a footballer to set an example, and hopefully help them improve their skills."

Local councillors, Herts Sports Partnership, Hertfordshire Police and representatives attended the Community Programme launch from Arsenal.
