Scores on the Doors

When the Councils environmental health officers (EHOs) inspect a restaurant or similar food venue, they will invite the owner to voluntarily display the inspection results so it can be seen from outside the front door or front window, informing customers of the standards of hygiene and safety, whether good or bad.
Under the scheme, premises will be given up to five stars depending on how well they perform in three categories food hygiene and safety, structural conditions and management. The scheme works like the AA star guide to good hotels, however it will be based purely on food hygiene, with a maximum of five hygiene stars given for the best performing eateries.
Every outlet that is inspected will be given a rating to display if they wish to. Displaying the scores on the doors is currently voluntary.
As well as displaying scores on the doors, ratings will eventually be shown on this website, so watch this space for details. Soon youll be able to decide where to eat before you leave the house!
Hertsmere Borough Council is one of ten local authorities across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire taking part in the scheme, which gives customers more information to help them choose whether they eat in a particular place.
