Hitchin Bowls Club

We are a flat green outdoor bowling club and has been in existence for nearly 100 years - formed around 1913, Hitchin Bowls Club was one of the founder members of the Hertfordshire Bowling Association when it was formed in 1915. At that time the club bowled on greens behind the Ship Public House in Walsworth (now the Millstream). Hitchin Bowls Club moved to Bancroft Recreation Ground, nowadays known as Bancroft Gardens, when the recreation ground was opened in 1929.
Hitchin bowling greens are open for public use (2.30pm to 5pm and 6pm to dusk weekdays; 3pm to 5.30pm weekends 1 May to 30 September) and bookings may be made in advance at the Hitchin Initiative Office (27 Churchyard; 01462 453335) for those wishing to try out the sport.
New bowlers are always welcome - membership is currently £50 for adults (there is a 50% discount for the first year of membership for those new to bowling). Also, currently to encourage young people into the sport membership for those aged 18 or under is free.
Hitchin Bowls Club is at Bancroft Gardens, Hitchin, SG5 1LL. For further details contact Ken Porter on 01462 433255.
