The Hitchin Society is the civic society for Hitchin, an independent, non-political organisation with membership open to all. Through its programme of monthly talks, visits and other events, it aims to develop a wider appreciation of Hitchin including its local history, the architecture of its buildings, and the way in which the town has developed over many centuries. The Society campaigns to safeguard Hitchin's historic heritage for future generations to enjoy, while also calling for the highest standards in new developments, and for improvements to our streets and open spaces.
The Society offers an annual Civic Award to mark an exceptional new building or restoration project in Hitchin or the surrounding area. It is also the local organiser of Heritage Open Days in which buildings are opened to the public over a weekend each September. The Hitchin Society Newsletter is published twice a year, free to all members.
Annual membership rates for the Hitchin Society are: Individual £6; Two at the same address £10; Junior (under-18) £2. For more information, please visit the Hitchin Society website or contact the Membership Secretary on 01462 450599.
