'Crack House' Closed in Hitchin
| Published: 8th September 2008 13:31 |
A drugs closure order was granted by magistrates on Wednesday 3 September on a house in South Place in Hitchin.
The order, which lasts three months, was applied for using powers under the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2003. During this time it is a criminal offence for anyone, other than a person authorised by the police, to enter the premises, which is owned by North Hertfordshire Homes.
Inspector Simon Tabert from the Hitchin Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "We are working hard to further improve the quality of life of people living in Hitchin and having these powers helps us to robustly deal with these issues. We will continue to proactively target those who use their premises to deal class A drugs and cause anti social behaviour and we would ask residents to work with us. Residents can be our eyes and ears and if you have any information about people in your area who deal in drugs or causing a nuisance and disorder please report it to us or through Crimestoppers anonymously."
Kevin Thompson, Chief Executive North Hertfordshire Homes said: "At North Hertfordshire Homes we are concerned about the destructive effect drugs can have on communities and we are committed to working with the police to tackle this issue. In cases like this, where there is evidence that one of our properties is being used to deal drugs we will seek to take legal action to repossess the property."
If anyone has any information about where drug dealing is taking place or who is involved in class A drug supply or use, they are urged to contact the Hitchin Safer Neighbourhood Team on 0845 3300 222. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. You do not have to give your name and you could be entitled to a cash reward.
