Police Appeal for Witnesses after Burglary in Ickleford

Published: 8th September 2008 16:52
Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a burglary in Ickleford last week (Thursday 4 September).

The incident occurred at 9.15pm at a property on St Katherine's Close.

The resident noticed his rear garden light came on and, when he went to investigate, he was approached by three males who pulled him into his property, and then searched his house. The resident raised the alarm and the offenders, who stole a wallet containing bank cards, made off through the front door in the direction of Greenfield Avenue.

The three men are described as black, approximately 20 years old, of slim build and around 5ft 11in to 6ft tall. They were all wearing dark clothes and grey rubber gloves, and had their faces covered.

The man suffered injuries during the burglary and remains in hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Detective Sergeant Kerry Bull said: "This was a distressing incident for this man, who has been hospitalised as a result of the burglary. We are following a number of lines of enquiry, however I would urge anyone who believes they may have seen these men acting suspiciously in the area before or after the incident to contact me with any information they may have."

"If you can help, please call me on the non-emergency number on 0845 33 00 222. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Chief Inspector Geoff Camp said: "I would like to reassure residents that this type of crime is extremely rare. There is no reason to suspect that this was anything but a one off incident, albeit an alarming one. My thoughts are with the victim, his family and friends. Whilst detectives continue their detailed investigation, pursuing various lines of enquiry, residents can expect an increased police presence over the next few days to revitalise the well grounded general feeling of safety."
