And What Do You Think? - Help Shape Your Area

Published: 20th September 2008 14:23
Almost one in 10 households in Hertfordshire are set to be consulted about life in their local area, and how it could be changed for the better.

The new postal survey, which is part of a nationwide consultation, will be sent out on 25 September to around 40,000 homes across the county. It has been planned jointly by Hertfordshire County Council and the 10 district and borough councils in the county, and will help provide them - and the public - with a detailed picture of people's views on their local area and local public services.

The survey will measure satisfaction with services provided by local councils, the police and NHS - telling them how well they are meeting the needs and expectations of local people, and what they might need to do differently in the future. It will also gauge public opinion on issues such as community cohesion, respect, anti-social behaviour and crime.

Councillor Robert Gordon, Leader of Hertfordshire County Council, said "This is a vital opportunity for residents to tell us exactly how they feel. Listening to local people helps us make sure we are tackling the issues that matter to them, and to improve the services we provide.

"By conducting this survey together with all the district and borough councils in Hertfordshire we will be able to reach more people than ever before. We want to hear everybody's opinion - so it's important that we receive as many responses as possible."

Participants will have the opportunity to enter a free prize draw, with the chance of winning up to £100. Across the county, 10 respondents will be selected at random to win the top prize - and another 50 will receive £25 each.

Surveys need to be completed and returned by 19 December 2008; results will be available in early 2009.
