Picnic in the Park - Report & Photos

Report and photos from Hitchin resident Chris Whymer.
On Sunday 7th September, Hitchin Helping Hands held their annual Picnic in the Park. This took place in Bancroft Park from 2pm - 6pm. Unfortunately, due to the unsettled weather, it was decided to hold the event in the pavilion rather than outside as per previous years.
The entertainment was provided by Hitchin Town Band, and their music was enjoyed by the whole park courtesy of external loud speakers.
Provisions for this year's event were kindly donated by Sainsbury's Distribution Centre at Waltham Abbey, and two members of staff came along to help prepare the refreshments along with regular volunteers.
The event was attended by Chairperson of the Council Allison Ashley and her husband Derek. Allison assisted in the drawing of the raffle, which along with a tombola stall and a collection raised a total of £288, which will go toward the funding of a new mini bus.
Joan Kirby would to thank everyone who attended and supported the event, especially the loyal team of volunteers without whom this event would not be possible.
