Chequers Stotfold and Kcinsatop Reserves, second and third in the league respectively contested the final at Arelsey Town. The match started off quite open with end to end football being played. However, the opening exchanges didn't result in any clear chances being created as the two sides cancelled each other out. Any shots on goal were from distance and didn't cause either keeper any trouble.
It wasn't until the thirtieth minute that a shot was on target and this was by Lee Smith of Chequers but the ball went safely into the keepers arms. Although it was now Chequers who were having most attempts at goal the breakthrough came from Kcinsatop when a cross came over from the left hand side Chris Slattery there was a melee in the penalty area and as the ball bounced around Chris Slattery headed home. This looked like being the only goal of the first half but in the dying seconds Chequers got the equaliser. Following a cross from Pete Saunders Nicky Bendon was on hand to calmly place the ball past Anthony Wickham in the Kcinsatop goal. There was only time for the restart before referee Rob Smith blew for half time with the score at 1-1.
It was Chequers who started the second half the brightest with both Pete Saunders and Sam Gibson coming close to scoring. However, Kcinsatop began to gradually put some good moves together and in the sixty fifth minute following some good play by Leon Chandler the ball found its way to Markus Brown who made it 2-1 to Kcinsatop. Chequers kept going and five minutes later Leigh Murphy crossed in from the left for Nicky Bendon to rise and head home and equalise for the second time.
With fifteen minutes left to play Kcinsatop's Leon Chandler received the ball on the edge of the area turned inside and placed the ball into the left hand side of the goal to make it 3-2 to Kcinsatop. The drama wasn't over and Chequers can count themselves unlucky as twice they were denied. The first occasion was when the ball came in from the right hit the cross bar bounced down and appeared to cross the goal line, but the play went on. A second incident came just a few minutes before the final whistle when a long ball was played into the Kcinsatop penalty area and when a defender appeared to almost catch the ball the crowd waited for the penalty to be awarded but the whistle never came. Final score Chequers Stotfold 2 Kcinsatop 3.
