Volunteering Opportunity: British Schools Museum

The British Schools Museum is proud to be an independent museum managed and staffed almost entirely by volunteers for over 15 years. Volunteers welcome visitors and guide then around the museum. Volunteers also welcome school classes and pre-booked groups of adults. Some of the volunteers dress up in Victorian costume and take on the role of very strict school masters or mistresses; others like to stay behind the scenes and help the curator with the care of artefacts in our collection. Some volunteers work in the fabric team with "do-it-yourself" repairs and maintenance around the site; others help in the shop and café.
The museum is always looking for new people to join its team of around 100 at present, and new opportunities are developing as the museum's visitor programmes grow. The volunteers have a monthly team meeting - it's not compulsory, but it is an opportunity to hear the latest news and meet friends and other volunteers socially. If you can't make it, you'll be sent a newssheet instead.
The museum will give you all the training you need, plus you'll be shown around and be able to talk with other volunteers before you make up your mind whether to join the team or not.
