Spotlight on Oughton's Children's Centre

Oughton's Children's Centre aims to provide childcare, information, support and services to families with children under 5 years old. The Centre is based at Oughton Primary and Nursery School and is primarily for those who live in the Westmill community or the villages of Cockernhoe, Great Offley, Hexton, Ickleford, Lilley and Pirton, although families from other areas of Hitchin are also welcome to attend.
Listed below are the range of groups on offer:
Aerobics (Friday 9.45am to 10.45am)
Get Fit, Have Fun, Make Friends!
Trained female instructor offering a fun and lively aerobics session for just £2 per week. Creche provided for 50p per child.

Angels (Tuesday 10am to noon)
For parents and carers of children with ADHD or Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Creche provided.

Behaviour Clinic (Wednesday 1.30pm to 3.30pm)
An opportunity for parents to discuss concerns from sleep/eating problems to temper tantrums.

Childminders (Monday 9.30am to 11am)
This is a support group for childminders and offers a stimulating environment for the children in their care.

Coffee Mill (Monday to Friday 1pm to 6pm)
After school club for children aged 8 to 11.
Counselling (Friday 9.45am to 3.30pm)

Fathers' Support (Friday 10am to 11.30am)
For fathers, step-fathers or men caring for small children, whether they are on their own or have a partner.
The group looks at getting the most out of being a parent, understanding your children, developing better relationships, sharing knowledge of child development through play and dealing with problems.

Home-Start (Thursday 10.30am to 12.30pm)
Friendship and support for parents. Children can make friends and have fun.

Ladybirds (Wednesday 10am to noon)
For families with children under four. Meet with other parents, play co-ordinator, nursery nurse, speech and language therapist and community health visitor.

For families with children aged eight or under. Borrow toys and meet others.

Up on Downs (Monthly)
This is the North Hertfordshire Downs Support Group and is affiliated to the Down's Syndrome Association.
Dates and times may vary so please contact Julie Evens on 01462 452705. The next meeting is on Monday 2 July from 12.30 to 2.30pm.
