Congratulations to Vicky Bradford from Hitchin who has been chosen as the winner of the ‘Love your leftovers' recipe competition as part of North Herts District Council's (NHDC) Christmas food waste campaign.
Lucky winner Vicky will be whisked away for a day cookery course at Jean-Christophe Novelli's award winning academy in Tea Green, where the Michelin starred chef himself will be leading the class.
NHDC and Jean-Christophe Novelli joined forces last year on the food waste campaign aimed to get people to think creatively about using up their leftovers from the Christmas and New Year festivities. As part of the campaign, North Herts residents were invited to submit their own recipes to the Council for using up their festive leftovers. Vicky's winning recipe ‘Santa's Leftover Parcels' served up a delicious meal that ticked all the right boxes saving money, and also benefiting the environment by re-using leftovers. The winning recipe is available on the NHDC website.
Vicky said: "I am delighted to have won and really excited to be meeting Jean-Christophe Novelli in person. I love cooking and experimenting with ingredients so being able to attend a course at the Novelli cooking academy really means a lot to me."
Jean-Christophe said: "I would like to offer my congratulations on winning the competition. Vicky's recipe was innovative and used a good combination of seasonal ingredients. I particularly like the way she kept the recipe neat and simple and I look forward to trying her winning dish when she comes along to my academy for her cookery course in May."
Cllr Peter Burt, NHDC's portfolio holder for Waste, Recycling and Environment said: "The winning recipe was imaginative and inspiring, simple to make and above all else used up festive ingredients that are commonly leftover and often thrown away. This tasty recipe will help families to save money and prevent unnecessary food waste from being thrown away."
