Safety Advice for Car Owners from Hitchin's Safer Neighbourhood Team
| Published: 14th August 2008 09:57 |
Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team in Hitchin are reminding residents to make sure they have locked their vehicle.
It follows a number of incidents recently in the town and surrounding villages where vehicles have been left unlocked and items have been taken from inside.
PC Sian Beames from the Hitchin Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "Thieves are opportunist and if a vehicle is left unlocked you're more at risk of becoming a victim of car crime. Incidents of this nature have not been a significant problem but have occurred and I would like to ask people to doubly check they have locked their vehicle when leaving it unattended.
"We are continuing our proactive work as part of Operation Tarantula, an initiative to further reduce car crime in North Herts, but I would also like to take this opportunity to remind people not to leave anything on show."
