Hitchin Health Walks: Volunteer Walk Leaders Wanted
| Published: 31st August 2008 20:56 |
The Hitchin Health Walks is a programme of regular walks in and around Hitchin. All the walks are graded to give walkers an idea of what to expect and also led by trained volunteer health walk leaders.
Volunteers play an essential part in the ongoing support of the Hitchin Health Walk scheme. As well as supporting our existing walks (particularly Tuesday afternoons), we are currently looking to start some new weekend and evening walks and are looking for more volunteer health walk leaders. To find out more about becoming a health walk leader please visit the Health Walks website, send an email to healthwalks.cms@hertscc.gov.uk or call 01462 459395.
In order to become a leader you need to attend a free one-day training session, the basic content of which covers the following:
- the benefits of walking and the barriers which prevent people from walking;
- how health walks are different from normal walks, with a demonstration walk to identify the component parts;
- the qualities of a good walk leader and their responsibilities;
- information about planning routes and doing basic risk assessments;
- a combined two hour ‘Save a Life' course.
We have a course coming up on Saturday 6th September in Hitchin. Numbers are limited so if you are interested in coming along please get in touch with us as soon as possible to book your place.
