Update: By popular demand, Mike Barfield's Big Windup (details below) is back at Hitchin Museum this Friday 15th August from 10.30am until 12 noon. Mike will be winding up and demonstrating his collection of clockwork and mechanical toys. A chance to see them in all their whirring, clicking and clanging glory!
There will soon be lots of whirring, clicking and clanking going on at Hitchin, as Mike Barfield's big windup comes to Hitchin Museum (Paynes Park).
On Monday 4th August at 10.30am and on Friday 8th August at 10.30am, Mike will be demonstrating antique and modern tinplate, clockwork toys from around the world, from ducks to horses, and from spaceships to steam trains! Local author and cartoonist, Mike Barfield has been collecting these toys for 15 years, inspired by nostalgia, coupled with a love of their quirky design, often beautiful packaging and their frequently hilarious, under-powered and invariably erratic antics!
These toys are also on static display at Hitchin Museum in the upstairs and downstairs community cases throughout the Summer Holidays.
Both of these events are free and there's no need to book!
Hitchin Museum is open from 10am - 5pm daily (except Wed and Sun). For further information please contact the Curator, David Hodges on 01462 434476 or david.hodges@north-herts.gov.uk.
