The author Jaqueline Walker, who published her first book, ‘Pilgrim State', earlier this year, will be giving a talk at Hitchin Library on October 8, as part of the programme of events for Black History Month.
Pilgrim State is a moving memoir about Jacqueline's family's migration from Jamaica to Britain via the USA and contains original documentation as well as personal photographs. It tells the story of Jaqueline's mother, Dorothy Walker, who is in equal parts beautiful, headstrong, brave and tragic.
"We are very pleased to be hosting this talk by Jaqueline, which I know will be warmly welcomed by anyone who has already read her memoir as well as providing an excellent introduction for those who have yet to pick it up," said County Councillor Keith Emsall, Executive Member for Education and Culture. "This is one of a range of events in local libraries which are being arranged in Black History Month - and one of the many talks by authors which are now part of the library service's calendar of events."
For more information about 'Pilgrim State', (Sceptre, 3rd April 2008) and the author, visit the Pilgrim State website.
The talk will be at 7.45pm at Hitchin Library (Paynes Park) on Wednesday, October 8. Tickets, which are £2 each, can be obtained in advance or on the door. For more information call 01438 737333.
