Free Swimming Lessons for the Over 50s

Grundy Park Leisure Centre and The John Warner Sports Centre are offering free swimming lessons for those aged over 50 in an effort to promote a healthier, active lifestyle.

These free swimming lessons are one way towards a more active lifestyle, try a new hobby and gain confidence in the water. The free swimming lessons are available to all those who cannot swim.  Once aquatic skills have been developed, participants are then able to enjoy swimming at either centre on a regular basis.  Free swimming is available for all those aged over 60 at both facilities during all public swimming sessions.

The positive benefits of regular exercise are well documented and an active lifestyle is often seen as the best way to improve quality of life as people get older. Swimming is an ideal way for people over 50 to increase their physical and mental wellbeing and helps to tone and strengthen the body.

There is an Easter holiday one week intensive course being held at both centres from Monday 12 April to Friday 16 April. The Grundy Park Leisure Centre course runs from 11.30am to 12.45pm and The John Warner Sports Centre course runs from 10.30am to 11.45pm.

Following these one week courses, Grundy Park Leisure Centre is running a 12 week course, starting on Thursday 22 April and taking place on Thursdays from 3pm to 3.30pm and Fridays from 12 noon to 12.30pm. The John Warner Sports Centre is holding four six week courses, with the first taking place from Wednesday 21 April to Wednesday 26 May between 11am and 12noon. Further six week courses are also available from Thursday 22 April to Thursday 27 May, between 10am and 11am and Tuesday 27 April to Tuesday 8 June (no session on 1 June), from 10am to 11am. A final six week course will be running on Wednesdays 28 April, 12 May, 26 May, 9 June, 23 June and 14 July, all from 6pm to 7pm.

Places on the courses are limited and available to non-swimmers only.  To book, or for further information on the fee swimming lessons for the over 50s scheme, contact The John Warner Sports Centre on 01992 445375 or Grundy Park Leisure Centre on 01992 623345 or visit the webpage from here.
