My name is David Carlin, I work at the Leith School of Art. I have been involved with the school for 10 years now and I have been asked by the school to set up a programme of Art classes in the leith area. I studied at the Leith school of art between the years 1998/2000 completing a foundation cours for access to Edinburgh college of Art, which I entered and studied for a further 4 years leaving with a BAHons in drawing and painting. I have just completed a 1 year PGDip in community education from morayhouse/Edinburgh University. I would like to take this opportunity to let you know about these new art classes coming to leith very soon. The classes will be held within Leith at most of the existing organisations such as Duncan place Resource Centre, Leith Community centre, The Acorn Centre, Citadel Youth Centre,and so on. These classes will be free, and they will be for people who want to try and see what being in an art class is like. You dont have to have experience, if you are unemployed, a single parent, a low earner, somebody with no qaulifications, or low qaulifications, disabled, or see yourself as belonging to a ethnic minority within Leith, then come along and see if these classes are for you. All materials will be supplied, just come along. I will be delivering some taster classes lasting about 2 hours a session. Leaflets will be on show at all the organisations within the next 3weeks, so keep a look-out for them, they will have the Leith School of Art logo on them. Hope to see you soon, David Carlin. On May 15th 2010, I am taking part in my first ever Playtex Moonwalk, a power walking marathon, through London, at night, in aid of Breast Cancer and other cancers.
In June 2010, I am taking part in the Starlight Walk, Watford, in aid of the Peace Hospice.
I am then taking part in the Cancer Research Uk, Race for Life, Watford (no dates given yet).
Why so many walks in one year? Because I know people who are all suffering from cancer or who have suffered and are now in remission.
I don't have a cure, I am not a scientist, but for my children, for myself, for those now and who come after me, whilst I can, these walks are something that I simply HAVE to do.
