The thirteenth annual international Compost Awareness Week will take place from Monday 6 to Sunday 12 May 2013. Broxbourne Borough Council is encouraging residents to get involved by composting at home to produce their own free nutrient-rich compost made from recycled material.

Broxbourne Council has published its Annual Environmental Monitor for 2010/2011, which includes the fourth quarterly monitor from January to March 2011. The Monitor shows many encouraging trends across the borough - increased recycling, less fly-tipping, and more sign-ups to the 'Adopt-a-street' scheme, to name but three.

Every year, Broxbourne Council plants hundreds of new trees in public spaces such as parks, verges and cemeteries. As it is impractical and costly for the Council to water them all, the Council is asking the local community to help look after the Borough's young trees during the current period of warm weather.

Two recent incidents in Norris Rise and Dahlia Close left the roads looking unsightly as paint placed inside refuse sacks leaked out of the Council's domestic refuse collection vehicle. The Boroughs annual delivery of purple sacks commenced on 9 February 2010 and should be completed by 31 March 2010. Each property will receive 52 purple sacks and an accompanying letter. Cllr. Paul Mason has hailed the success of the special street cleansing in Waltham Cross, and is considering extending the scheme to both halves of the Borough. However, it is a costly exercise and would be less of a problem if we (the public) educated the kids on the environmental damage caused, and paid more attention to our disposal of litter.
