For National Food Safety Week (which started on 6th June 2011), the Council was warning residents that they could be at risk of food poisoning because of some commonly held food safety myths. During the week, visitors to the Council's website had the opportunity to test their food safety knowledge by filling in an online questionnaire.

During the first half of 2010, reported cases of food poisoning in the Borough were down by 45 per cent compared with 2009. However, during July this has changed and reports of Campylobacter, a food poisoning organism commonly associated with poultry, have increased by 63 per cent. During 2009 Broxbourne Council dealt with a total of 130 confirmed food poisoning cases, an increase of 16 per cent over the previous year. The bacterium responsible for 91 per cent of these cases was Campylobacter, a food poisoning organism commonly associated with poultry.

If you missed the swimming lessons for the over 50s in April, the good news is that more courses have been arranged for July and August at Grundy Park and John Warner. These courses are free, and aimed at producing a healthier and more lifestyle for the non-swimmers among the over 50s. Spaces are limited though, so hurry!
