Teens Unite Fighting Cancer
‘Teens Unite Fighting Cancer', is a Broxbourne-based charity dedicated to improving the lives of young people aged between 13 and 24 with life limiting illnesses.
The charity has projected short term and long term goals;
- giving teenagers quality time together on special days out
- grants for hair replacement
- to set up and facilitate a teens user group and support network
and ultimately,
- to acquire a respite home, the first being in the borough
- to build ‘bolt-on' respite homes
As many as six teenagers a day are diagnosed with cancer in the UK. Teens Unite want to help improve their quality of life. This period of their life is unlike any other time, filled with change, adjustment and emotional unrest, they display remarkable courage, and their ill's bear no weight and tears no bitterness.
When a teenager is diagnosed and requires continuous treatment, it places a tremendous strain on all members of the family. The long term aim of the charity is to establish the first stand alone Respite Home in the Borough of Broxbourne, for teens with cancer and other life limiting illness. This will be the first such home in the UK and a project that will have a national profile.
The home will allow teenagers the opportunity to spend time with others in similar situations to themselves, enabling them to build on their confidence and reduce the feeling of isolation.
