The Monitor shows many encouraging trends across the borough - increased recycling, less fly-tipping, and more sign-ups to the 'Adopt-a-street' scheme, to name but three.

Every year, Broxbourne Council plants hundreds of new trees in public spaces such as parks, verges and cemeteries. As it is impractical and costly for the Council to water them all, the Council is asking the local community to help look after the Borough's young trees during the current period of warm weather.

Cllr. Paul Mason has hailed the success of the special street cleansing in Waltham Cross, and is considering extending the scheme to both halves of the Borough. However, it is a costly exercise and would be less of a problem if we (the public) educated the kids on the environmental damage caused, and paid more attention to our disposal of litter.

Fly tipping in Bread and Cheese Lane has cost an Enfield resident over £1,000 in fines and costs after a successful prosecution brought by Broxbourne Council . The message is, DON'T DO IT. If you know of it, please report it, it is OUR money that pays for the clearup if the perpetrators get away with it.

The council spends approximately £800,000 a year of taxpayers' money on picking up the litter dropped in Broxbourne. Roads and footpaths are cleansed regularly, but the anti-social behaviour of some individuals mean that rubbish soon begins to accumulate again. Hence in 2002 the council inaugurated the Adopt a Street scheme.
