SQA Results 2007 - Highland
Examination results were received by pupils across Highland on Tuesday, 7 August. The initial analysis of SQA results is based on raw data and will be subject to further analysis and revised once the formal appeal process has been completed in September.
The pattern of presentation of pupils for national examinations is changing across Scotland. In Highland 25% of pupils in their third year sat national examinations. This is a year earlier that the normal pattern. In addition, new courses such as Skills for Work and other courses have been introduced in Highland schools. These courses are not included in this analysis of results.
In the third and fourth year, the performance of pupils at Foundation and General level has remained stable. There has been a reduction however, in the number of pupils gaining 5+ awards at Credit or Intermediate 2 level.
At Higher level the number of pupils gaining 5 or more awards remains high at 10.1% and has stabilised at this level for a number of years. 43 pupils gained five Highers with an A pass. This included 7 pupils from Millburn Academy, Inverness, 7 pupils from Lochaber High School; 6 pupils from Fortrose Academy; and 6 pupils from Thurso High School. However, there has been a drop in the number of pupils gaining 3 Highers.
An Authority Spokesman said: "While pupils in Highland continue to perform well in comparison to national performance levels it is necessary to review any changes in performance which have taken place. It will be necessary to assess the impact which the changes in course provision both in 3rd and 4th year, such as Skills for Work and other courses, are having on the overall impact of Standard Grade and Higher courses."
