Crunch Time for Winter Soups

Author: Irene Robertson Published: 29th October 2007 19:32
It's Crunch Time For Winter Soups"

It's crunch time for winter soups thanks to Antony Worrall Thompson's fresh, oven-baked, crispy, crunchy croutons. These bite size morsels are the perfect accompaniment to warming soups.

Just a handful of Anthony Worrall Thompson's crunchy croutons can turn a humble bowl of soup into a treat, and add a professional touch to dinner party soups. Made from fresh, hand baked breads, the croutons' generous seasoning ensures they give bite to soups in more ways than one! All three flavours are suitable for vegetarians and are additive and preservative free.

They include:

  • Rock Salt Ciabatta Croutons are made with rich olive oil from gently fermented bread dough and lightly seasoned with chunky rock salt. They gently ‘season' subtle soups while not detracting from their flavour and are good with fish and chicken soups.

  • Italian Cheese and Garlic Croutons are packed with the finest garlic and buttery Italian cheese. These rustic chunks are perfect with rich tomato, dark mushroom and onion soups.

  • Sun Dried Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper Croutons burst onto your taste buds with the robust flavour of rich, ripe, sun dried tomatoes and red peppers. Drenched in light olive oil, they add the perfect Mediterranean flavour to minestrone and full-flavoured vegetable soups.

Antony says: The secret to success is to match the crouton with the soup. Subtle croutons suit milder flavoured soups while the more robust crunchy bites are best kept for full-flavoured soups that can take it. For extra crunchy croutons, place them in a medium hot oven on a baking tray for a couple of minutes while heating through your soup: then scatter them on just before serving so they don't soften too soon. Pop extra ones into a bowl so people can help themselves to more crunchy cubes if they so wish - and they usually do!

Where to Buy

Look out for the bags and pots of Antony Worrall Thompson croutons at leading supermarkets including branches of Tesco, Morrison's, Waitrose and Booth's priced around £1.99 for 95g.
