Rangers' weekend outdoors extravaganza
Highland Council's Countryside Rangers have organised a choice of three events this weekend (Sat 17th & Sun 18th May).
For anyone who has ever wanted to learn how to use a map and compass properly there is an introduction to hillwalking on Saturday 17th May from 10am-5pm. Hillwalking for Beginners will climb Meall Fuar mhonaidh to 699m high and is 6 miles / 9km long. The views from the top and ridge make it worth it the effort. There is a £5 charge, payable on the day. To book a place or find out more information call 01463 702933.
Also on Saturday as part of the Beauly Scarecrow Festival, there are a number of activities running at the Beauly Centre, Beauly (Grid reference: NH 528 465). From 10am to 12noon and 3pm to 5pm for a small charge participants can try their hand at making a scarecrow. For gardening enthusiasts from 1.30-3.30pm, learn how to make Good Garden Insect Homes, and how to encourage beneficial insects to your garden. Finally from 3.30pm-5pm is the Pro Crow Walk, a chance to find out about crows and their cousins and enjoy a bit of farmland fun and silliness. Budding nature detectives can join in with a game of Biocluedo on Sunday 18th May. This free fun family event meets at Abriachan Forest Trust car park, Abriachan (Grid reference NH 540 354) from 2pm to 4pm. This event is in partnership with Abriachan Forest Trust. The Highland Council Countryside Rangers are a partnership between The Highland Council and Scottish Natural Heritage with the aim of promoting public enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside and conserving wildlife.
