Q:  What are the golden rules when accessorising for outfits?

A: There are no golden rules as such but plenty of rules come into play depending on the type of outfit you are wearing. As examples when wearing metallic colours such as gold and silver these should match. So if your clothes have gold zips and buckles you should opt for gold chains and clasps. Also when wearing patterned outfits make sure you accessorise with block colours, meaning your jewellery for example should pick out the faintest colour of the outfit. Other rules such as if you are wearing a heavy necklace make sure you don't wear earrings should also be taken into consideration.

Q:  I'm on the short side but hate wearing heels. What type of style clothing or colours should I be wearing to give the illusion of height?

A: Go for one colour slim line outfit and wear a low "V" neck.

Q: I would love to wear a strapless number but I'm very self-conscious about my arms. Is there an alternative apart from surgery?!

A: There are plenty of alternatives including wearing a shrug or pashmina. Alternatively try wearing a heavy necklace to take the eye away from your arms.

Q: I'm on the larger size (size 16) - what advice can you give me when choosing clothes to make me appear slimmer?

A; Wear heels and wear dark colours in one colour. Tight fitted shirts with a looser waistcoat over the top plus a scarf or long necklace will also help to slim your appearance. Whatever you do, don't opt for big baggy clothes - they will only make you look bigger.

Q: I'm tall and pear-shaped and need a new pair of jeans. I'm confused over what type to buy (boot-cut, straight-leg, flare etc...) and what I would suit - what advice can you offer?

A: Go for a Boot-cut jean as it lengthens the leg and the Boot-cut bottom of the jeans balances out the hips.

Q: Being flat-chested is there anything I can wear to give the appearance of a fuller bust without always resorting to filling my bra?

A: Try layering your clothes as this gives the illusion that there's more going on up top than what there is! Otherwise pleated tops are always a good disguise.

Q: I'm useless with colour and haven't got a clue what suits me. I'm blonde and pale-skinned. Help!

A: This is a tricky one as everyone's colours are different and individual to them. Try and seek advice from shop assistants and get other people's opinions - pop into Muse and we'll help you out on this one.

Q: Are there any rules for wearing belts (wide belts, skinny belts, glitzy belts) or does anything go?

A: If you've got big hips don't wear wide hipped belts. Waisted belts suit petite people and hip belts suit tall people.

Q: I've heard that wearing all the same colour from top to bottom gives the impression of looking taller. Is that right and how can I brighten up an outfit if I do wear all one colour?

A: Yes, that's right. The key to avoid an outfit looking bland and dull is to accessorise, accessorise, accessorise! Wear a bright scarf, vivid jewellery and eye-catching bag and shoes.

Q: I love following (and wearing) the latest fashion trends. I know knitwear is in right now but whenever I wear it I feel old before my time. Is there a special secret on how to wear it or should I avoid it altogether as I just don't feel comfortable?

A: If you don't feel comfortable in something don't wear it because you won't carry yourself confidently. You need to feel good to look good.
