Patience or Bunthorne's Bride by the Petts Wood Operatic Society

Bunthorne is a minor poet and loves the adulation he receives from the ladies of the Village, who regard Aestheticism - the craze he stands for - as ‘cool!' He rather fancies Patience, the village milkmaid, but this attention is not returned. The local company of dragoons are all engaged to these ladies, who have recently rejected the soldiers' attentions. They are annoyed. However, when the ladies hear that Patience has surprisingly agreed to wed Bunthorne, the ladies seek solace in the arms of their fiancées.

(David Kilgour), whose real-life wife Helen Kilgour (right) is the
high-minded Patience in G&S's comic operetta at The Stag
theatre from 30 April.
Soon, a really handsome poet called Grosvenor, enters the scene. Once again the fickle ladies reject their lovers and cling to him. Bunthorne and the dragoons spend their energy in trying to win back the love and attention of their ladies. After much fun and games, all ends happily ever after. With the exception that Bunthorne remains single! Belying the subtitle of the opera - "Bunthorne's Bride!"
