Thames Operatic Society (TEPOS)

Thames Operatic Society (TEPOS) began life as Woolwich Polytechnic Operatic Society in 1937, then in the 60's became Thames Poly Operatic Society (the E in TEPOS was added to make it easier to say!). The society changed its name to TEPOS Music Box earlier this year, and we have just staged our 70th anniversary celebration concert, The Platinum Collection.
Our first show was ‘The Gondoliers' in 1937. During the early war years it proved difficult to produce regular shows but in 1940 we performed ‘The Mikado' and began staging annual performances in 1943. We celebrated our Diamond Jubilee year in 1997 with a firm favourite, ‘Princess Ida', which also paid homage to our Gilbert & Sullivan roots.
Although the Society originally began by staging Gilbert & Sullivan repertoire, we also focus on musical theatre, staging shows such as ‘Fiddler on the Roof', ‘The End of the Pier Show' and ‘Me and My Girl'.
TEPOS has a reputation as one of the best amateur Operatic Societies in the local area. Our most recent show was 'Carousel' in March 2007. We also stage an annual concert; this year's 'Platinum' theme featured songs from many of the shows that we have performed over the years.
We currently rehearse on Mondays at Charlton House in Charlton, and our main shows are performed at the Bob Hope Theatre, Eltham (in March each year). Our members are based across a wide geographical area in South East London and Kent. More
