Refuse centre, collection and recycling

Refuse Collection

Refuse collection days in BR5 depend on which street you live in - search for your regular collection days (roads are listed alphabetically). The same document gives information about recycling collections which are done fortnightly and shown as 'Week 1' or 'Week 2'. To find the dates of 'Week 1' and 'Week 2' collections, see the calendar document.

Recycling

The council provides black boxes to recycle paper and card, and green boxes to recycle glass, plastic and cans. The green box has two spaces - one for glass, and one for plastic and cans.

  • Items that can be recycled in your black boxes are: newspapers, magazines and flattened cardboard. Hardback books, drinks and milk cartons or large cardboard boxes are not accepted. Items that can be recycled in the green boxes are: plastic drink and detergent bottles, which need to be washed and squashed, drinks, tin food and aerosol cans, glass bottles and jars. Non-acceptable items include yoghurt pots, plastic bags, foil, other metal, pyrex, drinking glasses, crockery and broken glass.

NOTE: The nearest local recycling bank for paper, cardboard, bottles, glass, clothes and shoes is next to the steps at Petts Wood Station.

For further information or to obtain recycling boxes call 020 8313 4557 or e-mail: csc@bromley.gov.uk

A green garden waste collection service can be arranged (which is payable). Waste is taken to a local farm and recycled into compost. Green garden waste stickers cost £1 and should be attached to the bags. Stickers are available from libraries and the civic centre. To book the service, call free-phone 0800 389 3804 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) or See more information about this service

Refuse Centre

The nearest refuse centre is Waldo Road, Bromley BR2 9RB. You'll need a permit for the refuse centre which you can complete online. Any household or garden waste can be taken to the site during the opening times. Soil, brick, rubble and construction waste may be accepted for a fee according to weight. There are a number of recycling facilities for: paper and card, bottles, cans, car batteries, fridges and freezers, metals, textiles, oil and wellington boots. There is also a container for cement-bonded asbestos which needs to be put into at least two bags. Bromley residents need to bring their reuse and recycling permit in order to deposit bulky household and garden waste free of charge. Users not living within the borough will be charged £3 per visit. Trade or commercial waste will be weighed and a charge made according to the weight.

The centre is usually very busy at weekends so it might be wise to check out the centre's webcam to see what the queues are like before deciding to leave home.

Waldo Road Opening hours

Monday to Friday 7am to 5:30pm
Saturday 7:30 am to 4pm
Sunday 8am to 1pm
Bank Holidays 8am to 4pm

The centre is closed on 25th and 26th December and 1st January.

Bromley council offers a chargeable bulky waste collection service. Collections can be booked over the telephone or on-line. There is a minimum charge of £25. For details and more information call 020 8313 4557 or e-mail: csc@bromley.gov.uk

List of pharmacies does not include new one next to Clarks shoes Queensway, link to 'see more ..' does not work.
A useful list, and I have copied it onto MS Word, printed it to 4 sides - could this be made easy for less-literate computer users?

Hello David,

Many thanks for your comments. I have now added the Petts Wood Pharmacy to the list- especially as it offers late night and Sunday services.

I have repaired the NHS link also so this now works.

Further to your suggestions, at the beginning of the article I have added the list as PDF and Word documents.

I hope that this helps but please come back if there is anything else that you find.

Best regards
