The Garden Estates Association of Petts Wood

Although situated in the heart of Petts Wood not many people know of the Garden Estates Association (GEA) of Petts Wood and its village hall and surrounding allotments.
The hall and allotments are situated just off Queensway, at 36 Woodhurst Avenue and its purpose is for the recreation and education of residents in Petts Wood.
The GEA of Petts Wood is a registered charity and is run by a committee of volunteers who meet on a regular basis to ensure that this valuable asset of Petts Wood is well managed and maintained.
The history of the hall, as far as the committee understands, is that back in 1939 the land was donated to the residents after the builders went into liquidation. Although the hall is now well over fifty years old the committee try to ensure it is regularly maintained so that it will be here for many years to come. The only income is from hire charges as the GEA of Petts Wood receives no money from any other source.
There are numerous regular groups that meet at the hall and those allotments that are being worked are well looked after.
The hall is available for hire and has a capacity of about 60 people. It was recently refurbished and has a toilet suitable for the disabled. The surrounding allotments are also for hire and there are a couple of plots that have become vacant.
Although the hall is not available for hire on Saturday evenings or Sundays there are a number of afternoons that are available for hire and it would suit a group that meet on a regular basis, or anyone wishing the odd ad hoc booking.
