Editor's Blog - Friday, 24th October

It's Friday evening and I have some 3,500 Gazettes piled up in my dining room ready to be delivered to the good citizens (and the not-so-good ones!) of Petts Wood in the morning. I hope you like it.
And some stuff has already started to arrive for the December edition: a warning re Christmas related crime for the local boys and girls in blue, details of new charges for getting rid of DIY waste at the Council tip, a great write-up of the Petts Wood WEA's 60th birthday party, and a load of stuff on your rights as a customer and how to complain when it all goes pear-shaped. That's a few pages filled already.
The Maximum Rhythm & Blues gig last night was fabulous. Loads of stuff from the 60s from the old Manfred Mann mob and some brilliant blues music from Maggie Bell and Alan Price. Right up my street!
And my mate Ian down in Leigh will not be surprised to learn that I got Maggie Bell to sign a couple of CDs...

However, I got an added bonus last night - a kiss from Maggie Bell. I'm not going to wash that cheek for a fortnight!
I see that the new pavements in Bluston Parade are coming along nicely. That road was a bloody death-trap before with its gigantic pot-holes and broken paving slabs. Why it took the Council over 30 years to get around to sorting it out is a complete mystery - I guess there were no fatalities or serious accidents for which the Council could get sued! However I have it on good authority that some residents are now complaining about the inconvenience of not being able to use the pavement for a couple of weeks - what a bunch of short-sighted whingers we have in Petts Wood!
Rumour has it that the Council is also considering installing a mini-roundabout at the junction of Bluston Parade / Petts Wood Road / Station Square. That would be a welcome improvement to this highly confusing junction - let's just hope the Council doesn't take another 30 years to make up its mind!
In the previous blog, I told how the first recipe for the Round The World cookery lesson was for "Tom Ka Kai". Well, I have now received the two recipes for the first Best Of British lesson and I'm pleased to say (not surprisingly) that Chinese chicken soup does not feature! We will actually be cooking Braised Beef With Beer And Cheddar Cheese Dumplings and Orange Fool. That's more like it - I reckon I'll be able to get all the ingredients for those two in Morrisons with my eyes closed!
Toodle pip.
