SWIMMING REPORT - LANARK AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB

Last week seven Lanark ASC swimmers competed for the South Lanarkshire Swim Team at the Scottish National Open Championships.

Sixteen year old Victoria Gourlay competed in the women's events. The Lanark swimmer finished 8th in the 50m breaststroke final and also reached the B final of the 200m breaststroke where she also finished 8th. Victoria shattered two of Adele Dickson's Club records which had stood since 1993; 50m backstroke (33.89) and 100m backstroke (1.12.41). She also broke her own 100m butterfly record (1.10.53).  Fifteen year old Chris Wilson continued his recent fine form recording three personal bests from three swims; 50m breaststroke (35.25) which lowered his own Club record, 100m breaststroke (1.18.03) and 50m backstroke (31.58). Club mate Ross McCafferty broke his own Club record in the 200m freestyle (2.07.33). The younger Lanark swimmers also set new personal best marks; Maya Andrew (12yrs) 200m butterfly 3.09.99, Morven McNab (12 yrs), 50m breaststroke 40.61, 100m breaststroke 1.29.45, Ailsa McNab (14 yrs) 50m breaststroke 39.54, 100m breaststroke 1.24.90 and Jack McComish 200m breaststroke 3.03.84.

In the relay events Lanark swimmers won a gold and silver medal. Ailsa McNab was part of the South Lanarkshire team which won the Scottish Junior 4 x 200m freestyle title whilst Victoria Gourlay won silver in the 15/16 years 4 x 50m Medley event.

Coach Karen Kelly said "It has been a long season and the swimmers can now have a well earned break. Our swimmers gave their all and the seven of them posted personal best times in at least one of their events. This Meet attracted some of the French Olympic squad as well as three of the Scots who are bound for Bejing."
