Published: 1st October 2008 16:28
Jailbreak was held at Rawtenstall Magistrates Court on Saturday 27th September to raise funds for Rossendale Hospice.

Here is a list of the felons and their crimes.

Overall the felons raised between them an outstanding amount of over £11,000 and the money is continuing to come in. There is still time to sponsor them (www.justgiving.com) this will add to their bail money to stop them from being thrown back into jail!!

All the felons were arrested on the morning by PC Martin Gallagher and PC Frank Romasanta and escorted in the police van to Rawtenstall Magistrates Court.

Ted was a fantastic support on the day, even his wife and daughter helped to make props, together with Rossendale Free Press photographers Tony and Anthony who used their photographic expertise to produce personalised t-shirts and props. They manipulated a "before and after" image of solicitor David Connor from Woodcocks who claimed to have received a makeover from Freddie, transforming him from Tramp to Male Model which raised some laughs. There was plenty of humour and banter between Ted and the Judge (Raymond Bennett) who came out of retirement just to participate in our day. He produced an unexpected variety of funny glasses throughout the event which added further to the humour in the courtroom.Judge Deed making a spectacle of himselfJudge Deed making a spectacle of himself

Nigel Barker from Dennon's office supplies wore his helmet with blacked out visor throughout the whole event and played the part of The Stigg!!

Nate from the deli had a witness in a fat suit to give evidence. She could not stop eating his cake which had the secret ingredient in.

All in all we had a great laugh and at the same time raised a tremendous amount of money for Rossendale Hospice. It is a wonderful endorsement of the support and generosity from our local businesses and we would like to thank all our felons and their supporters. Special mention also needed to Rawtenstall Magistrates Court, Lancashire Constabulary, Woodcocks solicitors, Raymond Bennett, Ken Stott, Chorus Line, Ted Robbins & family, Sam Aston, Natasha Peel, Rossendale Ammature Operatic Society, Rossendale Free Press and Lancashire Telegraph, who all played an invaluable part to the success of the day.

As a registered Charity Rossendale Hospice relies heavily upon the support of our community - without their fundraising efforts it would be difficult to continue to provide our services to those in the Rossendale Valley who suffer from not only cancer, but a wide range of life limiting illnesses - we are truly grateful.

DVDs of the event will be available in a few weeks. If you would like to reserve a copy please contact the Fundraising Department at Rossendale Hospice on 01706 240081 or email fundraising@rossendalehospice.org
