Volunteering in Lancashire - your chance to make a difference

People in Lancashire who have time to spare and want to make a difference in their communities, will soon be able to take advantage of new volunteering opportunities throughout the county.
The drive to recruit volunteers gets underway later this month. It is being coordinated by Julie Sumner, Lancashire County Council's County Volunteer Service Manager: "There's a wide range of volunteering opportunities available in the county; whether it's as a room steward in one of our museums or mentoring someone with a disability, there will be something for everyone".
"As well as making an invaluable contribution in their communities, volunteers benefit in so many other ways; for instance, volunteering helps people to get into employment or to change career, to stay active and to reduce social isolation.
Julie added: "Students can also benefit from volunteering. Some courses require students to volunteer giving them real experience of different client groups or learning about communities and how to combat social isolation"
"I'd encourage anyone who's interested in finding out more about volunteering to visit the volunteering pages on the county council's website.
Opportunities for volunteers include mentoring and befriending social isolated adults; supporting the Library and Information Service such as IT support, baby bounce and rhyme, supporting the museum or record office to index and archive Lancashire's history or support someone with a disability to travel independently on an agreed route.
Most opportunities are available throughout the county. To find out more and apply for a place on one of the volunteer awareness sessions, please visit the website or email volunteer.services@lancashire.gov.uk or telephone 01257 248118
