Home-Start

By working as a volunteer for Home-Start you will help parents with young families to cope with the challenges that raising children brings.

Being a parent yourself, you'll understand that family life isn't without its sresses and strains and will be well-placed to offer support to families, whether in the form of practical support such as assistance with preparing meals, or simply providing company and a listening ear.
As a volunteer you would visit a family in their home for a couple of hours once a week.
What qualifications do I need?
No qualifications are necessary, though experience of bringing up children is essential, as are being friendly and having a caring attitude with an understanding of the pressures of parenting. Home-Start values people who are non-judgemental, who respect the fact that they have been invited into a family's home and who will treat a mother or father as an equal.
Will I be given any training?
Home-Start provides full training and support to volunteers, both during their induction period and throughout their contact with families.
Home-Start's Volunteer Preparation Course is free of charge and runs for ten weeks and consists of ten 4 hour sessions. The course takes place at the Kingfisher Centre in Rawtenstall.
