Exploding the myths about Botox

Exploding the Myths about Botox

Have you ever wondered what Botox could do for you or are you too scared? Are you afraid of looking frozen and false? Do you see celebrities that have had treatments and think ‘no way!'?

Well if you would like a very natural looking treatment to smooth away those lines whilst remaining natural and fresh looking, read on and I will tell you the truth about Botox and explain away some of the common misconceptions....

Myth 1: Botox injections are poisonous and toxic to the body

Amanda Pierce Aesthetics in Rossendale; Botox clinic in Rossendale

Botox used cosmetically is extremely safe! Botox is a purified protein derived from the botulinum toxin, a serious form of food poisoning. When Botox is given as a cosmetic treatment, its safety is ensured by accurate administration into the facial muscles and the quantities used are so tiny and the concentrations so low, that a Botox injection is incapable of spreading its effects beyond the given area. These days you may be prescribed Botox by your doctor for a stiff neck, migraine, writer's cramp and even incontinence as Botox is used extensively in general medicine and the doses used far greater than we use cosmetically in your face!

Myth 2: Botox gives a frozen, surprised, unnatural look and prevents normal expression

Botox gives very natural looking results, that's why it's so popular! If you can tell someone has had Botox or you suspect they have because their eyebrows shoot up at an angle like Dr Spock, chances are they've had Botox done by someone inexperienced or they've had bad cosmetic surgery! The beauty of Botox is it will smooth away your lines and still allow you to express yourself. It can certainly give you a subtle eyebrow lift that makes you appear fresh faced and bright eyed. It's one of the most natural looking treatments in the world...

Myth 3: Botox fills lines

Botox relaxes muscles, it does not fill lines. Dermal Fillers fill lines. The two treatments although often used together, are completely different. Botox relaxes muscles causing the overlying skin to smooth over and it is mainly used in the top half of the face (frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines). Dermal fillers are injected under the skin using a tiny needle and literally plump out and smooth away lines and sunken areas such as around the mouth, cheeks and jowls. They last up to 18 months and are extremely safe (not at all like the horror story of Lesley Ash. She had liquid silicone...)

Myth 4: When Botox wears off it increases ageing

If anything, Botox dramatically slows down the ageing process and most certainly does not increase it! By temporarily relaxing the muscles, the skin no longer creases up, resulting in a smoothing effect. As the Botox wears off, the movement gradually returns and takes you back to where you started.

Myth 5: Botox is addictive

Botox is NOT addictive! The first time you have Botox, the results will last 3 - 4 months. If you have it regularly, the muscles get used to not working and the effects of subsequent treatments last longer in many people. Contrary to Botox being addictive, in time you are likely to need less Botox and less frequently for the same results!

Myth 6: Botox is painful

Most people are amazed at how quick and painless Botox injections are. Don't take any notice of Katie Price! I use an icepack to numb the area first and then the Botox is injected with an extremely fine, tiny needle. The whole procedure only takes a few minutes. When you come to see me, most of the time is taken up discussing what treatment is suitable for you, taking a medical history and ensuring you are entirely happy before we proceed.

Myth 7: Botox is ridiculously expensive and only for celebrities

You would be amazed who has Botox these days! It's quite likely your neighbour has it or some of your closest friends at work. They may not tell you, in fact they often don't tell anyone. It's their secret to looking great. Botox looks so natural that everyone notices, but nobody knows....

It's more affordable than you think, and if you compare it to some of the face creams you have bought over the years that have failed to deliver anything they promise on the pot, I think you may be pleasantly surprised! We have finance options at Amanda Pierce Aesthetics, and 3 Botox treatments a year start from £40.00 a month. Give us a ring on 01706 229931 for further details.

You should always seek a fully qualified and insured health practitioner to carry out your treatments. Amanda Pierce is a Nurse Practitioner (BSc (Hons)) and Independent Prescriber with over 25 years experience working for the NHS.
