First-time Tor Mile runner Alex Rawcliffe amazed himself when he completed the fell run on the Helmshore landmark and walked away with a trophy.

Alex, 13, was competing in last Wednesday's (8 July) event organised by John Cooper from 38th Rossendale Scouts and assisted by Rossendale Harriers Athletics Club.
The Haslingden High School year nine pupil said: "Musbury Tor is near my house and I often walk up there with friends but this was the first time I had run it. It was quite hard going up the hill and a lot easier going down."
He admitted to having aching limbs the following day, but still competed for his school in Rossendale Schools' Athletics competition at Seedhill in Nelson.

Alex trains two days a week with Rossendale Harriers at Marl Pits and won his trophy for the 12s to 14s category, which attracted around 20 entries.
Former Haslingden High student Ashley Kay also won the seniors' competition.
He was well supported in the event by other students. Staff members Wes Haworth, head of PE, David Hargreaves, Science, Mark Hargreaves, Business Studies, Viv Samuelson, Geography and Sixth Form receptionist Maxine Ruleman also completed the Tor Mile.
