New mobile library service for rural Rossendale

A new mobile library service has been launched in Rossendale, taking the county council's Library and Information Service to local residents living in rural areas.
The new mobile library vehicle travels the area offering access to the county's library service to people living in some of the most remote parts of the county and for those who find it difficult to get out and about.
The service operates five days a week visiting outlying areas of Rossendale and beyond including:
• Belthorn
• Stacksteads
• Edenfield
• Newchurch
• Church
• Knuzden
• Loveclough
• Waterbarn
• Hawkshaw.... and many more
The new mobile van carries a wide range of stock to suit all tastes, from young children right through to the mobile library's oldest customer Mrs Ludlow, aged 99 years old. The vehicles are fully accessible for people with mobility problems and disabilities, fitted with low rise stairs and a passenger lift for easy access so that customers can board to select their own books, and an induction loop system has been fitted for people with hearing impairments.
The vehicle has been designed to feel as bright and spacious as possible in keeping with the newly refurbished libraries in Lancashire as part of the Regenerate scheme to transform and modernise library services and to ensure customers enjoy a comfortable and relaxing library experience.
It is also equipped with the latest 3G technology, which gives staff live access to the county library database, meaning they can carry out on-the-spot searches for requested items from the public, which can then be collected on a later visit.
In addition, partner agencies and other organisations such as the Police and Fire and Rescue will be able to use the mobile library to deliver important information and advice to people in hard to reach areas.
New customers are always welcome and full details of the times and locations of mobile library stops in the Rossendale area can be obtained by contacting 01254 306900 or click here
