Accrington & Rossendale College's Painting & Decorating students have scooped their 8th award of the year to complete a record breaking run in all competitions.
Rachel Cook from Rawtenstall, Painter of the Year
18-year old Rachel Cook from Rawtenstall took first place at the regional heats of the Johnstone's paints painter of the year competition. 18 year old Danny Shaw from Bacup took second place in the same competition.
Phil Burgess, head of Painting & Decorating said, "This is a fantastic achievement which comes down to hard work by everyone involved. We've scooped 8 prizes at four different major competitions and we've also got 3 students who have now qualified for 3 different national competitions. While it's an amazing achievement, I'm not surprised in the least because each of our prize winners is willing to do the work necessary and they have a great attitude to go with their talent. The Painting & Decorating department is really buzzing at the moment, we seem to be going from strength to strength in everything we do. The competitions have been really difficult with complicated specs, which seasoned Painters and Decorators would struggle with, so I'm really proud of what they've achieved. The Painting & Decorating team are now training really hard so that we can achieve a medal place in the national competitions, the first one being the Dulux Competition at Bridgend Wales in June then Skillbuild at Leeds College of building in September".
Daniel Shaw: second place in the Painter of the Year Competition
