Police Appeal For Witness To Come Forward After Teen Assault in Rawtenstall

Police investigating an assault in Rawtenstall are appealing for a motorist who witnessed the attack to come forward with information.

Police signThe incident happened at about 6.55pm on Monday (May 28) in Haslingden Road, Rawtenstall, close to the speed camera. A 15-year-old boy was assaulted by a group of youths and suffered a broken metatarsal on his right foot and cuts and bruises all over his body.

One of the offenders is described as being white, about 15 years old, 5ft 4 in tall, of slim build, and wearing a grey jumper with ‘Brian the dog' from the television show Family Guy on the front.

During the attack, a passing motorist in a black Vauxhall Astra estate with a partial registration plate of PF57 stopped and shouted at the offenders to stop and police are keen for this person to come forward as they may be able to provide further information about the incident.

Pc Simon Strickland, from Rossendale police, said: "This was a despicable and cowardly assault, which could have ended up much worse had it not been for the actions of the passer-by. I would urge this motorist and anyone else who may be able to provide information to help our enquiries to come forward as a matter of urgency."
