The Bury TAGB group, which meets in Helmshore and Rawtenstall, has just returned from the Welsh Championships in Cardiff, from which they brought home lots of trophies. Marc Davies took bronze in the Men's Red Belt Division, Callum Johnson won silver in the Boys Cadet Red Belt Division, Joseph Wilkins took bronze in the Boys Tiny Tots Division and Oscar Loftus scooped a gold in the Boys Pee Wee Division, gold in the boys Tag Team and silver in his Patterns Divisions. Even group instructor Claire Sharples brought some a trophy, leading by example by winning gold in the Ladies Black Belt Division.
It has been a hugely successful year for the club with other members Alex Wardlow, Tom Gallagher, Ian McKenna, John Entwistle, Louis Malloy and Kim Bridgeman also competing up and down the country winning many British, English and Scottish titles.
Claire recently competed at the Excel Centre for the TAGB England Ladies team in London, where they won gold, and is currently training for the European Championships in Poland in October.
Claire said: "Since the club opened three years ago it has really gone from strength to strength with students training hard and achieving their goals. We hope to have the first students Callum Johnson, Alex Wardlow and Andy Wilson attain their black belts next year which will be a real milestone for the club."
Bury TAGB (TaeKwonDo Association) meets at St. Thomas' Church Hall, Helmshore on Friday evenings and at Balladen Community Primary School in Rawtenstall on Monday evenings.
