Working In Partnership To Reduce Crime.
Folks,
The summer is fast approaching so here is a reminder of a few useful tips to bear in mind when Going on Holiday!
- Remember to cancel your milk and newspapers
- Cut your lawns before you go away. If you are away for more than 2 weeks arrange for a friend or neighbour to keep them trimmed
- Let your neighbours know that you are going away.
- Ensure you have locked all windows and doors.
- Ensure you have locked your gates and any ladders and tools are locked away
- Use automatic timers to switch on lights in the evening.
- Ensure you turn on your burglar alarm.
- Ensure any external movement sensors attached to security lights are working
- Do not leave keys on display?
Lookout for your neighbours as well
- Push post and newspapers left hanging from letter boxes into the house
- Taking dustbins off the street when emptied
- Making sure deliveries are not left on the doorstep
- Watching for callers or visitors
Have a great holiday
Regards - Graham Davis

DON'T BE A SCHOOL GATE PARKER!
If you have to travel to school by car,
- Park a short distance from the school entrance.
- Keep the zigzag areas clear. If not your license could be endorsed.
- Don't drop your child off on yellow lines.
If possible, walk to and from school.
- If walking, plan your safest walk.
- Use the Safer Crossing places
- Hold hands with your young children.
- Make sure your children know the basic rules for crossing the road. STOP-LOOK-LISTEN-THINK are the key words.
Use the Green Cross Code to cross the road
- First find a safe place to cross, then stop.
- Stand on the pavement near the kerb.
- Look all round for traffic and listen.
- If traffic is coming, let it pass. Look all round again.
- When there is no traffic near, walk straight across the road.
- Keep looking and listening for traffic while you cross.
Set a good example to your children-always use roads sensibly.
Spring Clean The Shed
Time to clean out the shed, also check your garden shed for security now that the gardening seasons is almost upon us.
Make sure that the door, door frame and walls are solid. Replace any damaged or rotten areas.
Replace any broken glass with laminated glass, fix a grill over windows to steel plates inside the shed
Check the locks, hinges and bolts, make sure they are up to the job and the shed is secure as garden tools in a shed can be used by thieves to break in.
Fit a battery powered alarm and ensure the shed is well lit. Shed alarms are available at Hinckley Police Station front desk @ £5.
The police don't have any shed locks, you will have to purchase them from the local DIY shop. The police recommend the round type called closed shackle locks which means screwdrivers and tools cannot be used to break the shackle by pushing it into the gap between the hasp and the lock. Most cheap and cheerfulpadlocks don't withstand this type of attack. Best to pay a bit more for one that will do the job properly.
Make sure your household insurance policy covers theft from your shed.
Remember to keep your shed locked.
Leicestershire Adult Learning Service -
Which course is for you?
Courses continue to run in our area and are listed in the local ‘GO LEARN' brochure which is available from local libraries or the contact helpline below.
Are you one of the thousands of people wanting to ‘return to learn' this year?
If you are keen to update your skills to find a job, help the kids with their homework or have finally decided that the digital world is passing you by, then just give Adult Learning a call to discover the really wide range of subjects on offer. Choose from art and crafts, computing, languages, fitness and general interest sessions all running locally in our local colleges, libraries and community centres.
There's a great system to assist those on low incomes with cost as many classes are completely free and, in some cases, there's extra cash to pay for travel, exam fees and child care.
The service even has support available to anyone needing to brush up on their English and Maths in order to gain a nationally recognised exam pass.
In addition, the ‘Skills for Jobs' scheme can offer help and advice with CVs and job applications as well as many other short courses to help anyone aged 19 or over build up their skills for local employers. The Learn to Earn project can also offer help to people on incapacity benefit who would like to participate in a programme to help you look for work or training.
For more information and your copy of the latest GO LEARN programme call the local Adult Learning Service office on 01455 638021.
Leicestershire Safe at Home

These are available to residents of the Hinckley & Bosworth Borough. It is called ‘Leicestershire Safe At Home' and they can be contacted on 01530 837097. If you live next to someone who fits the above description who may not be able to contact the service, and you would like to help them, you can also contact the above service, but only with the person concerned permission.
Members Corner
Italian Job - A member received a letter from a member of staff at an Italian Bank stating that a customer, with the same surname as them, had died. He had over 16 million euros left in his account but there was no will, no traceable relatives and nobody had come forward to claim it. The Bank Official was asking the member to work with him and make a claim on the money, all they had to do was make contact to obtain further information. You can bet the next step was to ask for the members bank details or for the member to send a cheque to cover legal costs. Sounds very plausible but you don't get anything for nothing in this world.
