MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO ALLOW MORE TIME FOR THEIR JOURNEYS DURING DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL WEEKEND AT DONINGTON PARK
People heading to the Download Festival at Donington Park, Leicestershire, this weekend are being advised by the Highways Agency to plan their journey and allow plenty of time to get to the event.
The music festival takes place between Friday 13 June and Sunday 15 June, and fans are expected to start arriving on Wednesday 11 June. Major roads and motorways in the area, including the M1, A42, A50 and A453, are likely to be busy.
Donington Park is located next to East Midlands Airport, four miles west of junction 23a of the M1 and five miles from j24. Anyone travelling to the airport should leave extra time for their journey.
About 45,000 people will attend the event with more than 16,000 cars expected to head to the festival site.
Jo Ashton-Gray, Operations Manager for the Highways Agency, said"The routes to the festival will be well signposted but anyone travelling in the area should plan their journey in advance and check the latest travel conditions before they set out.We are making sure that we can provide as much helpful information as we can to enable people to make their journeys safely and reliably, but people travelling to and from the airport while the festival is taking place should allow extra time for their journeys."
