Summer Activities 2008.
New for summer 2008 ‘Caterpillar Club'
This summer we will be having a series of activities for younger children age under 5.
The sessions will last 1 ½ hours and will be a mixture of story telling, games, nature walks and craft activities.
Please see dates below for further information.
Trail like a Snail Monday 14 July
Call into the Visitor Centre today to pick up your self guided family trail leaflet taking you around the common and woods. Don't forget to call back at the centre to check your answers and collect your certificate. NB This trail will take you though the woods and over the grasslands so therefore not suitable for wheelchairs. Time to complete will vary, please allow up to 1 hour.
Trail available from the Visitor Centre between 12noon - 3.00pm Cost £1.00
Nature Collage Thursday 17 July
Come and complete your own collage of Burbage Common and Woods to take home with you. We will be using a mix of natural and craft materials.
10.30am - 11.30am & 12noon - 1.00pm Suitable for 5 year olds and over. Cost £1.60
Clay Animals Monday 21 July
Today we will be making clay animals. A firm favourite, with the chance to make spiders, ladybirds, owls or if you wish a even a dragon!

Caterpillar Club Thursday 24 July
The first of a series of activity's for under 5's. Today will be a craft day, making hand print flowers, colouring in and making collages.
11.00am - 12.30pm Suitable for under 5's Cost £2.00 per child
Mini Beast Hunt Monday 28 July
Today we will be searching for many of the mini beasts that live in and around Burbage Common and Woods. With the opportunity to view non-flying finds under the microscope. We will be looking in the woodlands, in the trees and in the long grasses around the site.

Funky Beastie Bugs Thursday 31 July
Join us in the visitor centre to make your funky felt and foam three dimensional ladybird, bumble bee or spider to take home with you.

Animal Orienteering Monday 4 August
Join us today in the sport of orienteering. Race around the common and woods to see what time you can complete this in. Return to the common for your time completion certificate. NB this will be a simple orienteering course for children, but will be over grasslands and in the woods so therefore not suitable for wheelchairs. Time to complete will vary, please allow up to 1 hour.
Course available from the Visitor Centre between 12noon - 3.00pm

Caterpillar Club Thursday 7 August
The second in the series of activities for younger children is 'Caterpillar Day'. Join us for story telling and craft activities based around the popular children's book, the hungry caterpillar.
11.00am - 12.30pm Suitable for under 5's Cost £2.00 per child
Creatures beneath the Water Monday 11 August
See what lurks in the depths of the ponds at Burbage Common, we may find tadpoles, snails, insect larvae and common newts. There will be the chance to get close up and personal by viewing though microscopes.

Pot Wind Chimes Thursday 14 August
Today we will be making pot wind chimes to hang in up in your own special place. Will you choose to make a ladybird, spider or bumble bee chime?

Caterpillar Club Monday 18 August
The last in the series of younger children's activities. Today we will be playing outdoor games, can you walk like a caterpillar or buzz like a bee? NB session will take place inside if the weather is unsuitable for outdoors.

Stained Glass Flyers Thursday 21 August
Create a dazzling stained glass dragonfly or butterfly today to take home. Add a splash of colour to your windows at home.
