Would you believe that one in five of us will reach the age of 100!!! This makes it even more important to plan ahead for a long, happy and rewarding retirement. The Nottingham Pre-Retierment are based on the High Road in Beeston and have been helping people with the transition from work to retirement for the past 44 years.
Courses are held at Beeston Town Hall each month. The next course takes place on 27,28,29 June and after that on 18,19,20 July. Expert speakers are available on a 1:1 basis and each delegate receives a resource pack with a free magazine and newspaper. One local resident who attended said it was the best course he had been on in 28 years of teaching.
The state pension age is to be raised to 66 by 2020 and this will affect five million people. It does not give them enough time to plan. It also risks plunging thousands of women into poverty, according to the charity Age UK.
About 2.6 million women will have to wait at least a year longer for their state pension because of the change and the plan to speed up the rate at which their state pension age is increased to 65 years, in line with men's.
Among these, there are 330,000 women who will have to wait an extra 18 months to two years before they can start drawing the benefit. Those forced to wait two years will lose an average of £10,000 of their state pension income.
If these plans become law, they will leave women with little time to prepare for their retirement.
