Presenting Christmas 2013 In Northampton

Colourful lights, decorated Christmas trees, free parking offers and a fabulous frost fair are just some of the festive delights on offer in Northampton this Christmas.

The Christmas lights will be switched on by Heart's breakfast presenters, Stuart and Natalie alongside the Royal & Derngate's Sleeping Beauty panto stars, Linda Lusardi and Sam Kane, at 6pm on Thursday 21 November.

There will also be a Fabulous Frost Fair on the Market Square on 1 December, with over 70 stalls featuring quality crafts, vintage goods and tasty treats alongside choir performances, street performers and a mulled cider bar.

A traditional Victorian carousel and a big Ferris wheel will also be on the Market Square from 21 November.

And to encourage everyone to shop longer in the town, there will be five weekends of free parking in the run up to Christmas in Northampton Borough Council's pay on foot car parks, St. Michaels, St. John's, Grosvenor and the Mayorhold. Parking will also be free in all borough council car parks on Sundays throughout the year and after 3pm on Thursdays from November 21 until Christmas.

Councillor David Mackintosh, leader of Northampton Borough Council, said: "This year there will be even more lights and trees than previously as we help decorate the town to celebrate this festive season.

"We want to encourage everyone to visit Northampton to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere created by the lights, trees and events. We also hope the free parking offers in our pay on foot car parks will help local businesses attract more customers and help cut the costs for shoppers who are counting the pennies."

More information on all this year's Christmas events will be released over the next few weeks and will be listed on a special Christmas website that will be going live on November 11.

Businesses can also list their Christmas events, offers and discounts on the website by emailing love@northampton.gov.uk
