Gian Biaz - Italian Cui
sine In A Contemporary Setting
Gian Biaz on the Wellingborough Road was our destination this weekend when on a last minute whim we decided to go out for something to eat. In walking distance on the Wellingborough Road it is well placed for dining out and when we entered I felt sure we wouldnt get a table as it was very busy. However we were lucky and they found a table for us whilst we waited upstairs in the lounge bar.
The atmosphere inside is really buzzing, it has contemporary decor with great lighting and intimate table arrangements, so that even with a packed restaurant you feel as though you are able to have a conversation and enjoy your own company. The service is excellent with the owner taking the time to chat to people and welcome them to the restaurant - but not in an intrusive way at all - It was clear that there were many regulars which is always a good sign in a restaurant.
The menu is a good size and caters for all tastes, we opted to skip the anti pasta although it was tempting and save ourselves for the main and dessert - whilst waiting in the upstairs lounge we had over-indulged in the complimentary snacks with our drinks!
I had the branzino D'Oro which is sea bass tossed with onions, peppers, chilli and finished with olive oil and balsamic vinegar - this was served with salad and saute potatoes - It was delicious - the fish was fresh and perfectly cooked and the potatoes were crispy and terribly bad for you but oh so good to eat! We also sampled the Spaghetti Del Pescatore, which is a seafood spaghetti which again was delicious - just simple food cooked properly. The restaurant has a really good variable menu including chicken, beef , vegetarian and veal dishes as well as the pasta and antipasta you would expect.
The service was perfect, the waitresses always appeared at the right time and the whole atmosphere in Gian Biaz is friendly, but with a real upbeat feel to it that makes for a really good night out. I would imagine this would be a great place to go out with friends.
Yes, we will be returning and adding Gian Biaz to our list of good places to eat in Northampton.
