A free disability sports open day is taking place at Danes Camp Leisure Centre to celebrate the 200-day countdown to the start of the London 2012 Paralympic Games on Saturday 11 February. Football, goalball, boccia, volleyball, wheelchair basketball and new age kurling are just some of the hour-long sports taster sessions happening at the event which is open to anyone with a disability who is aged six and over and their families. Everyone attending will also get the chance to round of the day with a swim in the leisure centre's pool for an hour at 5pm. The open day runs from 2pm until 6pm and registration opens at 1.30pm. The event has been organised by Northampton Leisure Trust in partnership with Northamptonshire Sport and is supported by Northampton Federation of Disability Sport, Voices in Action and Northampton Town Football in the Community. After the open day Danes Camp will be running a new disability multi-sports club every fortnight from 5pm to 6pm, starting on Monday 5 March. Sessions are open to young people with a disability aged six to 16 years. Activities will include a variety of sports including football, wheelchair basketball and boccia and each session will cost £2.50.
