Info For Villagers To Get Them Through The Grand Prix

RESIDENTS in Silverstone and surrounding villages are preparing for the annual disruption to roads and services that occur around the British Grand Prix.
But assistance is at hand for villagers wanting to know what roads have been closed and which services have been shelved for the duration of the three-day event.
A multi-agency leaflet, which has been distributed in the community by Silverstone Circuits, gives full details of what to do and where to avoid.
And a full breakdown of diversions and traffic restrictions for the villages of Silverstone, Whittlebury and Wood Burcote, Syresham and Dadford can be found on the Northamptonshire Police website – www.northants.police.uk/silverstone.
Villagers have been re-assured that the disruption to their lives and routines during the race weekend will be kept to a minimum.
The A43 will once again be closed to through traffic on Friday (July 4) as well as on Saturday and raceday Sunday (July 6).
Inspector George Cooper stressed that on Friday, only the A43 would be one-way – all other road systems will be as normal.
The inbound phase will start at around 4am and the outbound phase is scheduled to stretch to 10pm, although timings are estimated and dependent upon traffic flows.
He said: “The recent experience in the villages has been that of little disruption but alternative routes should be planned and can be done so quite easily. Journey times of course will be slightly longer than usual.
“The decision to close the A43 on the Friday has been made not just for the benefit of racegoers.
“It has also been made to take into account the safety and convenience of non-Silverstone traffic and to prevent these people being held up by vehicles heading to the circuit.
“We do realise that in many cases the Friday closure will have more of an impact on journeys than the Saturday or Sunday restrictions and we are working together with our partners to minimise the disruption to residents, drivers and local services.”
Detailed maps of the diversion routes and one-way systems throughout the Grand Prix weekend can be accessed on the Silverstone pages of the Northamptonshire Police can be viewed on the website.
