Councillor Rebecca Breese has been elected the new Chairman of South Northamptonshire Council.
Councillor Breese took over the chain of office at the Annual Council meeting last night (Tuesday May 13th), as Councillor Graham Smith stepped down after serving his position as Chairman in the 2007-2008 civic year.
The major role of the Chairman is to act as a civic figurehead and ambassador for the Council and the district of South Northamptonshire. Councillor Breese will represent the Council at civic events and ceremonies across the district, county and further afield, actively promoting the well being of our local residents, businesses and communities.
Each year a variety of fundraising events are held with the proceeds being donated to the charities chosen by the Chairman. Councillor Smith raised over £4000 during his civic year for his chosen charity, the Stroke Association.
This year Councillor Breese has chosen to support the charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.
Councillor Breese said: “It’s a great honour to be wearing the chains of Chairman of the Council. I’m pleased to have been given the opportunity to represent the Council in its civic duties to the district.
“I am looking forward to a busy year and hope to be able to promote the role of the Council across Northamptonshire.”
The new Vice-Chairman for South Northamptonshire Council is Councillor David Aaronson.
